Georgia Tech Molecular Science Building

Project focus: Special Finishes

Industry: Education
Challenge - Solution:

The Georgia Tech Molecular Science project presented several issues which we had to overcome in order to attain our goals for the project.

In the beginning we had to coordinate with each of the MEP subcontractors to allow the proper installation of the fire rated partitions for the back of house corridors. Each corridor was the main thoroughfare for the HVAC trunk, electrical conduit, plumbing, gas, and exhaust lines for each of the labs. Due to this, each partition had to be pre-hung, finished, fire rated, and painted prior to any of the other trades installation. Additionally the framing and installation of the Decoustic ceiling and Whisper Walls Fabric Wall Panels in the lecture hall presented an obstacle.

Each of the Decoustic and Whisper Wall Fabric Wall Panels had to line up with the tiered row seating, however the panels were installed 3 weeks prior to the installation of the lecture hall furniture.

To achieve the proper alignment of the panels, we worked closely with the mill workers and fixture installer to insure each trades shop drawings reflected the others work as it was to be installed. Ultimately all obstacles were overcome and this allowed us to reach all of our project goals and furnish another quality project for both the owner and general contractor.
